NATIONAL THEATRE TOUR

'An Evening with Christine Walkden'

TOUR DATES 2010

Award-winning Horticulturalist Christine Walkden takes her gardening life on the road

Christine Walkden’s “gardening life” encompasses passion, formidable expertise, hard won experience and a serious desire to share the rewards of gardening with others. It’s the work of a lifetime.

Christine is taking the story of that life’s work on the road in a national tour:  My Life in Gardening.

Her appearances will give audiences the opportunity to hear first-hand how this accomplished Lancashire plantswoman and horticulturalist made her way from child gardener to nationally recognised horticultural expert. Of course there will be plenty of stories about the quirky characters and unforeseen “adventures” that have shaped her journey along the way. Audiences will have a chance to ask questions in Christine’s very own Gardener’s Question Time session following her talk.

She hopes this tour will help people see that “that gardeners do a lot more every day than just weed, cut grass and plant a few things.”

Fans of Christine’s down-to-earth style coupled with razor sharp horticultural knowledge are wide ranging.  Those who barely know which end of a bulb is up as well as life-long gardeners enjoy her warm, straight-talking approach and her sheer delight in “Mother Nature.” She’s emphatic that a garden should be an extension of you and not a product of what any current “media hype tends to suggest”.

And audiences can’t get enough of her.  She’s the resident gardening expert on the One Show and has done two popular BBC 2 series of Christine’s Garden. Christine has made regular appearances on the Paul O’Grady Show and GMTV and has contributed to Countryfile, Gardener’s World, Gardeners Diary and the BBC’s Chelsea Flower Show coverage. She’s even has made a guest appearance on Shooting Stars. Christine is a past winner of the Garden Writers' Guild Radio Broadcasting Award and has authored two books, The Houseplant Almanac and A Year in Christine’s Garden. Later this year she will receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Essex.

Paul O’Grady calls Christine simply “the best gardener on TV”.
